2021-2022 School Year

Shalom Hebrew and Religious School Families,
We are almost at the end of the spring semester and it is time to prepare for the 2021-2022 school year. As you are probably aware, we began the process of merging Or Chadash and Temple Emanu-El into the creation of the new synagogue, Kol Ami. This coming fall, with pandemic protocols in place, classes will be held in-person at the Country Club location both for Hebrew and Religious School. A hybrid format will also be offered across all grades for those who are unable to participate in-person.

For all students entering grades 3rd through 7th, Hebrew School will be held every Thursday, from 4:15-6:15 p.m. and Religious School will be held on Sundays. Pre-K through 8th grade students will meet from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Our 9th and 10th grade students will meet on Sundays from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by aiding in classrooms from 10:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Curriculum overview and school calendar will be sent separately closer to the start of the school year. 8th grade students will be trained as Madrichim (teachers’ aides) and they will follow a slightly different schedule with various field trips throughout the year. For our students entering 9th-12th grades, we are offering continued education opportunities, including The Sacred Choices: Adolescent Relationships and Sexual Ethics in 9th grade and a Confirmation Class in 10th grade. All high school students are eligible to earn wages as Madrichim, as long as they fulfill the 9th-10th grade requirements as students in our program.

Early Bird Registration is designed to help us plan and prepare for the next school year. Early Bird Registration will take place through the end of May 2021. Please note that the Early Bird Registration does not include Membership Dues or Religious School Tuition. You will receive a separate billing at the beginning of the summer.

The Early Bird Registration fee structure will remain the same as last year. The Early Bird fee will be $100 for the first child and $50 for each additional child. Please note that when paying online, families who are registering more than one student, will need to pay $100 per child, and get the credit when paying the Religious School Tuition. The online system does not allow us to pre-discount the Registration Fee per additional students. Please verify and update all relevant information and fill out the Permission Forms in their entirety. This must be done annually. Early Bird forms and payment must be completed no later than Friday, May 28th, 2021. Checks or Bill Pay options are the preferred payment methods which help us keep the credit card fees down. If you pay by check, please make it payable to Joint Religious School, mark ‘Early Bird Registration’ clearly in the memo line and mail it to 3939 N. Alvernon Way (18) Attn: Rina Liebeskind.

After May 28th the Registration Fee will be $200 per child. Please help us to plan for appropriate class size, materials, and student/teacher ratios by registering early. Your assistance in this important matter is greatly appreciated. Families requesting scholarship assistance, must fill out a request for financial assistance prior to the May 28th deadline. To be fair to others, this deadline is firm.

The staff and I look forward to working with you and your family in the coming years. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 900-7030.

B’virkat Shalom,
