HURSDAY 11/18: Does George Carlin’s diatribe against theism have legs?
After viewing a clip of the late George Carlin’s stand-up routine, in which he declares a preference for sun worship, we will engage with reactions from those joining us by Zoom as well as offer our rabbinic takes on the ever thorny question of the grounding of beliefs.
Sunday 1/30: Risks for the sake of others: vaccinations & organ donations.
To say that life itself is fraught with risks is a no-brainer. At the very least, we draw upon common sense to judge whether certain risks are worth taking. In a day and age when religious doctrine has been invoked as an excuse to forgo medically wise protocols, we do well to review some Jewish parameters with respect to taking risks for the sake of others, risks such as vaccinations and organ donations.
Sunday 3/6: Political incorrectness in the Ethics of the Fathers.
Should we add political incorrectness to our High Holy Day Confessions? How susceptible or aware are we when it comes to devaluing identities and misunderstanding the various oppressions that may contribute to the culture and practices of a subculture. Our history as a vulnerable subculture doesn’t seem to have inoculated us against doing unto others what has been done unto us.
