Men's Club

Just a few short years ago, we established our now-thriving Men's Club at Temple.  Our focus is on providing social activities designed to bring our Temple Emanu-El family together for Fun, Food, and Friendship, while raising funds to support the mission of our congregation.

Temple Emanu-El Men's Club

Accomplishments and/or Completed Projects:

The mission of your Men's Club is to support Youth activities.  This support was shown in several tangible ways this past year.  Last May, your Men's Club presented a check to the 8th Grade Class, supporting their trip to Jewish Los Angeles.  We will extend that same support to this year's 8th Grade Class.  We also presented a $3,000 check to the Kurn Religious School, which provided two scholarships to make it possible for students who otherwise could not afford the tuition. Finally, with the support and the efforts of our Board and the Katz family, we were able to secure a home base for the JCTEY Youth Group at Temple in the wonderful Rebecca Katz Family Library & Youth Center.

This past year, our sale of latkes was a huge success.  For Hanukkah our "culinary team" produced over 150 dozen of our famous latkes. We contributed 50 dozen to Temple Emanu-El for both our Northwest Shabbat and Greatest Hanukkah dinners.  The balance was completely sold out!

On the social front, your Men's Club once again hosted and catered The Greatest Hannukah On Earth Dinner. This was the best-attended dinner since we have catered this event. Over 150 members and friends came together, in the spirit of community, to enjoy a traditional brisket and latke feast in an atmosphere of Jewish friendship and congeniality.

When the Men's Club identifies an area of Temple life that needs attention, we are compelled to address it.  Such was the case regarding the Sy Juster Auditorium ceiling. As a result, we contributed over $3,000 to have it repainted.

Our breakfast, which honored our "musical maestro" Chris Tackett, was not only a culinary success, but it also provided our congregation with an oppotunity to get to know the virtuosity of this extraordinary person. As a result of his talk regarding the influence of Jewish music on American culture, there was an overwhelming request for morei nsight into this topic.  As a result, Chris will teach a course, "Jews and Jazz," through Temple Emanu-El's Adult Education Academy.

Knowing the enormous task faced each year by our custodial staff, the Men's Club volunteered to set up for the High Holy Days.  We helped to set up chairs and distribute books and materials.

Upcoming Events and Activities:

Purim is on the horizon! That means that our team will once again be preparing our traditional and delicious hamantaschen!  Last year we sold over 100 dozen of these treats. Order early to make sure you are able to get your favorite flavor!

One evening each month, our members come together at a local sports bar to enjoy a social night of fun, food, and friendship. Our next event wil be held on February 5th at 6:00 pm at the Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery, located at 250 S. Craycroft Rd.  Even if you are not a member yet, please join us for the evening.

Challenges and Needs for the Next 6 Months:

We are calling upon all Temple men who would like to meet other men of Temple Emanu-El who are making a difference every day at our synagogue.  Why not be a part of our group of great people and contribute to the growth and posperity of Temple life?

Watch this page each month for even more exciting events to come.
